Certified Medical Coder

Certified medical coders can use their chart experience to design and grade coding scenarios that AI labs use to evaluate how their models handle clinical documentation. The role suits coders with a solid production background who are comfortable explaining the reasoning behind each code. The work is for an expert data company that supplies evaluation data to advanced AI research labs.

What you'll do

• Build realistic cases that move from chart notes to a finished code set
• Prepare reference answers backed by the relevant coding guideline citations
• Review AI-generated coding for accuracy and compliance exposure
• Spot code sets that look correct at first glance but would not survive an audit

What you'll need

• Active CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) certification
• At least two years of production coding
• Hands-on command of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS
• Strong written English for walking other coders through your code choices
• Inpatient, risk adjustment or E/M auditing experience, or credentials such as CIC, CRC or CPMA, is a plus

Good to know

• Independent contractor engagement on ongoing projects
• Fully remote and asynchronous, with at least 10 hours a week and no upper limit
• Pay ranges from $65 to $95 per hour based on experience, paid weekly
