Data Engineer

An early-stage, Y Combinator-backed startup is looking for data engineers to take on short-term, project-based technical work. The tasks resemble the daily responsibilities of data infrastructure, ETL, and analytics engineering roles. It suits engineers with a few years of hands-on pipeline experience who can work without close supervision.

What you'll do

• Set up and deploy data infrastructure using cloud services and current tooling
• Diagnose broken or slow pipelines and get them running reliably again
• Write clear documentation of solutions, data flows, and pipeline design
• Contribute to integration and warehouse projects, coordinating with others asynchronously

What you'll need

• One to three years working professionally as a data engineer, ETL developer, or in a similar role
• Solid working knowledge of at least one of dbt, Kafka, Spark, Snowflake, or Redshift
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a comparable technical discipline
• Good problem-solving ability and comfort handling technical tasks on your own

Good to know

• Remote contract engagement, with work offered one project at a time
• Estimated pay of $60 to $100 per hour, varying by project
• Expect around 10–20 hours a week on accepted projects, on an asynchronous schedule
• The current work runs for roughly two to three weeks
