CRISPR and Gene Editing Researcher (AI Safety Evaluation)

via AfterQuery

RemoteContractScience & Research

Key skills

  • Biology
  • Scientific Research
  • Python

About the job

Biologists with real CRISPR bench time can apply that expertise to AI safety in this short, remote evaluation project. You would review how AI models answer gene editing questions, judging both scientific correctness and biosecurity risk. It suits PhD students and Master's-level researchers, and the role is with an AI training company that builds expert pools which project teams then select from.

What you'll do

  • Review AI answers to gene editing prompts and rate their scientific accuracy
  • Judge whether each answer treats sensitive biology responsibly or carries dual-use risk
  • Flag outputs that raise biosecurity concerns or get techniques wrong
  • Write a clear rationale for every rating you give

What you'll need

  • A Master's or PhD (second year or later) in molecular, cell, synthetic or computational biology, genetics, bioengineering, microbiology, virology or biomedical engineering
  • At least two years of hands-on CRISPR or gene editing lab work
  • Working knowledge of Cas9, Cas12 and Cas13, guide RNA design in Benchling, CRISPick or CHOPCHOP, and cell line work
  • Experience with off-target analysis such as GUIDE-seq or CIRCLE-seq
  • A plus: base or prime editing, gene drives, DURC or biosafety policy knowledge, BSL-2+ experience, or Python or R for bioinformatics

Good to know

  • Contract, project-based work lasting about one week, done asynchronously
  • Expect 10–20 hours per week on the projects you take on
  • Flat fee of $1,000–$1,200 for the week; top candidates may earn up to $1,500
